WHAT IS GOUT?
Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints, most commonly in the big toe. These crystals cause sudden, severe episodes of pain, swelling, and redness in the affected joint.
If you are experiencing symptoms of gout, it’s essential to know that there are effective treatment options available, including cortisone injections offered by specialised clinics like London Bridge Regen Clinic.
Symptoms of Gout
- Intense joint pain: Gout usually affects the large joint of the big toe but can also occur in the ankles, knees, hands, or wrists. The pain is often most severe within the first 4 to 12 hours after it begins.
- Inflammation: The affected joint becomes swollen, tender, warm, and red.
- Stiffness: Some joint stiffness may remain after the acute attack subsides.
- Lumps under the skin: In some cases, gout can lead to the formation of lumps called tophi under the skin around the affected joint.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.
CORTISONE INJECTIONS FOR GOUT
At London Bridge Regen Clinic, we offer cortisone injections as a fast-acting treatment for acute gout attacks:
Cortisone injections: Cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory medication that can be injected directly into the affected joint to provide rapid relief from pain and inflammation associated with gout. The injection is performed under local anaesthesia to ensure patient comfort.
BENEFITS OF CORTISONE INJECTIONS FOR GOUT
- Fast pain relief: Cortisone injections can provide significant pain relief within 24 to 48 hours of the procedure.
- Reduced inflammation: The anti-inflammatory effects of cortisone help to reduce swelling and tenderness in the affected joint.
- Improved mobility: By reducing pain and inflammation, cortisone injections can help improve joint mobility and function.
- Minimally invasive: Cortisone injections are a minimally invasive treatment option, requiring no surgery or lengthy recovery periods.
While cortisone injections can effectively manage acute gout symptoms, they do not address the underlying cause of gout.
Long-term gout management often involves a combination of lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and medication to lower uric acid levels and prevent future attacks.

August 2023 - Anneliese C. | Hip labral tear
I booked in with Jon with a consultation around a month ago for a hip labral tear. Then had my injection with guided ultrasound today and it already feels alot better. I have to say Jon was amazing!! He informed me more than the hospital did regarding my results I had showed him. Jon is friendly, welcoming and professional. The ladies on the front desk are lovely too. 100% recommending Jon to everyone. I wish I had found him sooner as have been waiting on the NHS since January to get this done. The injection was done with great care and was over before I realised. So thank you sooo very much Jon!!
July 2023 - Sarah D. | Shoulder bursitis
After paying a lot of money and over 6 months of pain (not even being able to carry a shopping bag) for Physio with no improvement, I went to see Jon after 1 injection for my bursitis, and the correct exercises I am almost back to 100% with little or no pain Highly recommend, the aftercare is first class - if I had any other problems I would go and see Jon first.
